Copyright is bad for western economy

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

I was planning to write a long article about how enforcing copyright was generally bad for the economy of the “developed world” because in the end, all it did was give an advantage to countries who didn’t give a fuck. Thus while we spend all our resources at making it harder to consume and copy entertainment, countries like China and India would instead be making a profit from selling entertainment to it’s own people and back to us.

Cory Doctorow beat me to it, while his article isn’t exactly what I was going to write, he gets my point across quite well.

Människor …

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Imagine, that you browse your media server and discover that fresh, new Atlantis episodes are awaiting. Not one, not two, but a whole 6 episodes!

This is gonna be a long night. Wahoo!

edit: did I say 6? I meant 10 episodes!

The Star Wars Saga - At last, some answers

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

After watching episodes 1-3, many things popped up in the Star Wars saga that seemed inconsistent and proved to be frustrating to watch in episodes 4-6.

However after reading this wonderful article, I will never ever see Star Wars the way I used to ever again! Thank you Keith Martin, you’ve made Star Wars fun again!

How it should have ended

Sunday, July 17th, 2005

This is a cartoon showing how Episode 4 should have ended!

But since that site is down, I made a local mirror of the movie, click here.

Was I wrong?

Thursday, June 16th, 2005

I shall keep this brief, since I am actually in the process of eating breakfast/lunch.

I have been known to say that the new Star Wars prequels lack good dialogue, and are thus totally unquotable.

However, recently, when discussing matters of long lasting friendship with my girlfriend, I did what I often do, use a good quote for the occasion. To my surprise after uttering the quote, I realized that it came from the prequels. Episode 1 I believe.

The quote is as follows: “I will not let this Republic that has stood for a thousand years, be split in two!”, uttered by Senator Palpatine.

Anyway, gotta return to my brunch and think about this some more…. Perhaps there will be quotes to be used from the new movies after all… But can they ever be as numerous as those from the Sacred Originals? Time will tell…

Update: Of course, considering that Senator Palpatine was actually played by the True Emperor himself (i.e. the same dude that played him in Ep VI), it is maybe not so strange that he is indeed quotable?

I am pissed off

Wednesday, June 1st, 2005

I was watching some documentaries from the special material on the Star Wars Ep2 DVD, and I heard some things that made me so pissed.

It all started with the scene in the droid factory. That scene brings really nothing to the movie storywise, and I found it to be just a CG artists wet dream and just a pretty boring scene. What made me angry is that they actually did that scene with that in mind. It was basically just a bunch of useless action and CG effects.

That was only the beginning.

When I went on to watch the deleted scenes, they started talking about how they removed scenes that did nothing other then “promote character growth and backstory”. This is where I just got fucking fumed.

Shit! They removed big pieces of important conversations between Anakin and Padmé, scenes with Padmé’s parents, and a few others.

I mean fuck, here we have a totally useless and boring scene of the main characters playing a platform game in some totally gothic factory, and they are cutting fucking character background and development stories because they just “aren’t that important”.

I’m so mad right now.

UPDATE: I just watched the documentary from Fellowship of the Ring, and I noticed a major contrast versus the Star Wars Ep2 documentary. In Fellowship, they talk about the relationships of the cast and crew, the family that they built.

In Star Wars, they talk about the technology, and we get to see a lot of George Lucas examining works in progress. Also there was one funny quote from the Producer of Star Wars Ep2: “The Dialogue doesn’t make the movie, the effects make the movie.”

Wow, I guess that kind of explains why they all fucking sucked.

spider-man 2

Saturday, July 10th, 2004

I went to see spider-man 2 just now. Ooof that movie is da bomb! It was some seriously kick ass shit! I love it!

It follows well in the tradition of XMen. XMen 2 was also better then its first incarnation (not to say that XMen 1 was bad). Same with spider-man, the first movie kicked serious ass, and the second one drastically better. I love good sequels.

If you have not yet seen it, GO NOW! I’ll regret it if you don’t.
