Cop tackles biker, loses job

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

During Critical Mass in NYC this summer, a cop ran towards a biker and tackled him onto the curb for no reason what so ever. But since everyone likes to film everything these days, this seemingly pointless act was captured on camera and it seems that the cop has now been fired, with the tackling incident being the reason behind it. Read more.

In other news, the MASH crew unofficially rode the Tour of California on their fixies, and Garret Chow was tackled by a rent-a-cop when attempting to cross the finish line. Some people should simply never be given even the tiniest hints of having authority or responsibility. More talk.

Wet but dedicated

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Despite the heavy rain I decided to ride my bike to work. I was wet and dirty, but enjoyed it very much!

Tomorrow the weather is supposed to clear up, I hope so, cause I’m going to get a haircut and all.

Bikes rock!

Hello Bicycle

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Our mission bicycles have finally arrived. The excitement was total and we assembled them post haste.

There were some disappointing factors. I felt that my bike was a little to large for me, despite sending exact measurements.
Also the front fork clanks quite a bit, there are gaps in the assembly. I’ll have to take it to a local shop to be looked at.

As for Vlad’s bike, it was perfect, except that both front and rear rims had some scratches on them. Hard to say if it was due to rough shipping or bad packaging, but when we opened up the box nothing looked out of place.

Other then these minor (and some not so minor) issues, the bikes handled like a dream and we rode them through the pouring rain with joy.

Just our luck that after days and days of tropical heat, today had to be the day that the tropical rain started.

It better not rain tomorrow!

Update 2008-09-04: Mission is sending me a new frame and replacement parts so I can fix the problems with my bike! Yay!

The Mission… Bicycle!

Above is my new ride, the Clark Kent. Below is vlad’s madness machine.

Two pieces of awesomeness.

A transportation “what if”…

Sunday, April 10th, 2005

I am planning to go someplace. I mean, locally. Just local train, bus etc.
I am tempted to borrow my parents vehicle. However what is the reasoning behind the temptation?
Well the reasoning is obvious. I can’t be bothered to transport myself from bus stations to the final destination. I mean, the travel process itself isnt too bad, aside from the less comfortable seats….

However what if there were free bikes on every major bus and train station?
Anyone could take said bike, bike with it to his or her destination and leave it there.
Say for the sake of argument that the only way for you to take a bike is to use a unique key to detach the bike from a special stall at previously mentioned major bus and train stations.
You can only use the key to remove one bike, and you can only take a new bike when you have returned your previous bike.

There would also be a bike pickup service, that would pick up bikes left unmoving for certain periods of time.
Also, anyone could take your bike if you left it on the street for more then 8 hours.
Once that bike is taken by someone else, your key is automatically freed and you can take a new bike.

A system similar to this exists in germany, but it is obviously not free and requires phone calls etc.

My idea would require bikes to be connected wirelessly to the central network, possibly via GSM.

Man, if only it were so.
